Align Drivers With Direction

Align Drivers With Direction - illuminated arrows along a race track

Want to create the conditions for change?

Look for ways to leverage these three big drivers of human behaviour:

  1. Social norms: we care about how others might perceive us, so often play it safe by choosing the status quo
  2. Default settings: the out-of-the-box settings are easily available, so we’re inclined to let them make decisions for us
  3. Habits: the recurrent, mostly subconscious, small decisions we make about what we do, think, and believe require little effort on our behalf to perpetuate, so we tend to let them automate and animate our lives

Each of these drivers of human behaviour are powerful on their own, and even more potent in concert.

If you want to create the conditions for change for yourself and others, consider how you might retool the drivers of human behaviour so they better align with your new direction.
