People Don’t Like To Be Squeezed

It’s one thing to get the most value out of something like your travel points or content strategy or a free trial of a software solution.

It’s another thing to get the most value out of someone, whether that be an individual person, a team, or a community.

The phrase get the most value out of is often used with good intent, but ultimately it’s extractive.

It’s about squeezing out value, an activity that feels transactional, unidirectional, and doesn’t engender trust.

Other than a hug, generally people don’t like to be squeezed, and you can only squeeze someone so much before it quickly becomes painful and even dangerous.

Rather than seeking to get the most value out of someone, partner with them to do valuable things instead.

While squeezing someone has its limits, you can unleash near limitless potential by partnering and co-creating value together.
