Practice doesn’t necessarily make perfect or even progress.
You might do something every day, but are you improving?
For a lot of things, we simply go through the motions. These reps don’t necessarily equal better results. If they did, we’d be world-class in lots of things and there would be far fewer bad drivers on the road.
As John Dewey said, “We don’t learn from experience…we learn from reflecting on experience.”
Dewey’s assertion is not merely a saying. Research shows that reflection makes learning from direct experience more effective. Reflecting on your learning makes experience more productive.
If you want to accelerate your learning, commit to a consistent practice of quality reps AND reflection.
