Brilliant Idiots

When someone agrees with us, we think they’re brilliant.

However, when someone disagrees with us, we’re often quick to label them as ignorant, immoral, or an idiot.

When we disagree with someone, the hard part is to recognize that if we were in their position, we would probably see things differently. Now who’s brilliant and who’s the idiot?

There is an abundance of resources on how to get someone to agree with you. What if instead we focused on getting curious, listening deeply, and suspending judgment so we could better understand and practice empathy with one another?

How might that enhance our brilliance and enrich our own thinking and worldviews? How might that help us move beyond simplistic views of one another and divisiveness to sonder so we can work and live better together?
