Great Expectations

Great Expectations - pencil checking a box for Exceeded Expectations

Nobody rises to low expectations.

That said, we don’t give people a fair chance to rise to and even exceed our great expectations when we don’t set and articulate them clearly, consistently, and congruently with our words, actions, and systems.

It can be easy to get caught up in our own feelings of frustration, disappointment, and even contempt when someone or something doesn’t meet our expectations.

However, it’s important to take a step back and critically assess whether or not we actually set and shared explicit expectations in the first place or if these feelings stem from our own unvalidated assumptions.
